Sea of Thieves celebrates 40 million players, and downtrodden PS5 players are just begging to join them

Rare’s seafaring MMO has passed the 40 million player milestone across PC and Xbox, and a PS5 release is just on the horizon. While Sea of Thieves arrives on the Sony platform next week, it’s still not quite soon enough for some PS5 pirates eager to get back to their ships. Six years after its initial release, 40 million players is quite the achievement, considering the game is still only available on PC and Xbox....

Thanks to backward compatibility on Xbox One, late is a viable option and never is increasingly obsolete. The last console generation lives on. For anyone with a bucket list of unplayed games stretching back to the Xbox 360, now is the opportune time to strike. Xbox is holding a massive backward compatibility sale until May 28....

Super Mario Maker course finding website is up

But why isn’t this just in the game? I love me someSuper Mario Maker. I think it’s one of the coolest things Nintendo has done in years. But its lack of in-game course browsing and searching tools is utterly baffling. The rudimentary tools for finding the levels you want would be a deal breaker if the rest of the package wasn’t so good. While it isn’t perfect, Nintendo has addressed the problem somewhat with a new website,Super Mario Maker Bookmark, that is dedicated to steering you (auto-course style) towards the bestMario Makerlevels out there (which is ironically away from auto-courses)....

Super Mario Maker is more fun than I initially thought it would be

First hands-on with the retail edition Although I haven’t been super excited forSuper Mario Makerbased on the initial pitch, we’ve slowly been drip-fed more and more information over the past month or so, and some of it looks intriguing. Now, I’ve had the chance to play the game myself, and left pretty satisfied outside of one lingering issue. That Friday the 13th game cleared its $700,000 Kickstarter goal

With only two and a half days to spare I’m pretty sure everyone expected this, but theFriday the 13thgame has cleared its Kickstarter goal of $700,000, with only a few days to spare — something tells me it won’t reach the $5.5 million mark for its stretch goals. While a lot of people are hyped up with this concept, it has the potential to be pretty horrible if it isn’t executed perfectly....

The big Star Wars Jedi: Survivor performance update did not fix its worst problems

There’s no question aboutthe sheer quality of craftsmanship on show inStar Wars Jedi: Survivor, but much as was the case withits predecessor, the game suffered on PC due to shoddy performance and excessive stuttering.Survivor‘s latest performance update sadly fails to resolve this problem. To be perfectly clear, now,Jedi: Survivor‘s Update 9 is a proper game-changer if you’d excuse the pun. We’re seeing a substantial increase in the game’s frame rate basically across the boardas wellas losing the much-maligned Denuvo anti-tamper....

The highest Lethal Company quota record, explained

Lethal Companyis supposedly about dealing withmurderous entities, but the real horror is the necessity of meeting ever-higher quotas for the titular company. The quota is the amount of credits you need to make every three in-game days, a number that rises whenever your team successfully meets the target. Not meeting said quotas will terminate your contract — and life — as it causes the company to eject your team into the depths of space....

The Novelist has released on Steam

Give a ghostly hand of assistance The Novelist, a game where the player assumes the role of a ghost inhabiting a house visited by a struggling writer and his family, has released today on Steam. As with many new releases, it’s enjoying a 25% off introductory sale price of $14.99. I adore the idea behind this. Part stealth game, part life simulator, as the ghost you seek to help the members of the family work through a difficult time but you can only help them if they don’t know you’re in the house (presumably because they’d flee in terror if they did)....

The Red Dragon is playing Trevor Belmont in Netflix’s Castlevania series

Bring Hannibal back By way of a fireside chat-esque video from producer Adi Shankar,Castlevania‘s Netflix show cast has been revealed. It’ll have none other than Scottish actor Graham McTavish (Uncharted,Preacher) as Dracula and Richard Armitage (The Hobbit,Hannibal) as Trevor Belmont, which is a hell of a way to lead. It’ll also sport Matt Frewer, Tony Amendola, Matt Frewer (Max Headroom,Gargoyles), Emily Swallow, and Alejandra Reynoso. I mean, I’m into the animation, I’m into the cast, I really hope they don’t screw this up when it hits on July 7....
