NIS reveals Hotaru no Nikki for the PlayStation Vita

Play as a firefly! Nippon Ichi Software has revealed a new Vita game, titled “Hotaru no Nikki,” otherwise known as “Firefly’s Diary.” Evidently it’ll be an action title, and you’ll control a firefly with the intention of helping a young girl named Mion. Locations seem to include ruins, and enemies seem to be of the shadow variety — if you ask me, this soundsa lotlikeIco, which is just fine by me....

While not giving any other details, this is likely to be a localization of the Japanese mobile release fromearlier in the year. Since that port also had an Android release, I wouldn’t be too surprised to see it coming to Google’s popular OS as well. As for now, we’ll just have to do what the Tweet says and stay tuned....

PS2 port of Rock Band: Worst. version. ever?

Yesterday, I (along with my wife and Topher) decided to play through Rock Band’s “Endless Setlist” in the game’s “Band World Tour Mode.” The epic list is a culmination of all of your custom band’s blood, tears, and sweat on the road to fame; it’s a non-stop marathon of the discs 58 songs, back-to-back, with no breaks. Yes, it took us eight hours, and yes, we smelled afterwards. Regardless of the fact that I don’t want to playRock Bandfor at least another month (OK, fine, I’ll be playing again next week), “Band World Tour” mode certainly is one of the game’s stand-out features....

Review: Ghostbusters

In 1991, had we been given the opportunity to join the Ghostbusters as an “Experimental Equipment Technician,” we probably would have jumped at the chance. It’s a job that would prove to be extremely dangerous — it would involve not only battling demons and ghosts, but doing so with untested and potentially dangerous equipment. But in 1991, we were young and careless. In 2009, we’re (mostly) responsible adults, and — despite the fact that most of us are scared to leave the house in thunderstorms — our dreams of strapping on a proton pack and taking out Gozer and associated spooks and demons never quite faded....

Review: Nintendo Labo: Toycon 04 VR Kit

To VR or not to VR VR is in such a precarious and exciting spot right now. It was expected to completely change the game out of the gate and just hasn’t so far. Myriad corporations, direct VR hardware peddlers, or otherwise have scaled back production from the 2016 wild west spending period, but that doesn’t mean the [good modern] tech is dead. Nope, many innovators still believe in the space, several headsets are actually doing well by most standards, and a lot more hardware is on the way....
