Developers are from Cameroon

Aurion: Legacy of the Kori-Odanis an incredibly interesting game. It’s billed as an “African-fantasy action-RPG,” putting a lot of emphasis on combos and combat while also having a setting based on African mythology.

I played a build of the game a few months ago, and it’s difficult to explain whatAurionis specifically. The closest comparisons I can make are the very different gamesDust: An Elysian TailandDusty Revenge, who all have a similar flow to their combat.

The game’s been in development for quite a while, and now with publisher Plug In Digital, the developer is askingfor some help on Kickstarter. At the time of writing, the game has raised €22,571 of the €40,000 goal. With 12 days left and just over half raised, it’s anyone’s guess right now as to whetherAurionwill get funded.

What makesAurioneven more interesting is who is developing it; Cameroonian studio Kiro’o Games claims it is the first development team based in Central Africa. It’ll be cool to see how an African studio makes a game that’s based on Africa, seeing as the last major game set there I can think of was Ubisoft’sFar Cry 2.

I personally really hope it does. Not very many games come out of Cameroon, or Africa as a whole, and the game itself looks fantastic. Hopefully, this team gets the push it needs to do well.

[Disclaimer: I havenotbacked the game on Kickstarter. However, I have interviewed the community manager at Kiro’o Games for another site back in April, before I joined Destructoid.]
