Here’s our first look at the newly-3D character models

We knew Red Hook Studios was making a sequel toDarkest Dungeon, didn’t we? Don’t tell me I’m the only one who let that tidbit slip. They can’t hurt me or my heroes if I don’t acknowledge them!

The studio is back today with a more substantial (but still very teaser-y) trailer forDarkest Dungeon 2, along with news that the tough roguelike RPG will debut on the Epic Games Store in 2021. There’s a sparselanding page on the Epic Storewith verbiage that could definitely apply to the original game.

In a follow-up tweet, Red Hook said the 1.0 version will also launch on “other PC storefronts.” If you’re wondering about possible console ports, no word yet, but I’m sure they’ll eventually come to fruition.

As for the trailer, it’s weirdly cozy in a world-ending sort of way. Apart from the staple narration, we’re also getting a peek at the now-very-much-3D character models, which I’ve grabbed screencaps of below. I’m curious to see how these classes will look in the full context ofDarkest Dungeon 2.

The ghost at the end of the hallway

“Has been a really cool experience working with our character modelers Kevin and Jordan to sculpt these 3D canvases for me to draw on,”saidRed Hook co-founder Chris Bourassa. “Preserves the game’s signature art style/hand-drawn quality while allowing us to push animation and VFX.”

It’s been interesting to seeindiesequelsgo big like this. Should be cool.
