Okay

Dante, like Bayonetta, is a character a lot of people want to see in just about any action crossover. He has such a huge arsenal of moves at this point that a team would have to even pare him down, allowing for all sorts of technical chicanery. But in case you were hoping that the demon hunter would be one of the upcoming secretSmash Ultimatecharacters: it looks like that isn’t the case, at least according toDevil May Cry 5director Hideaki Itsuno.

Speaking to VG247, Istuno notes that in order for Dante to guest star in theSmashseries,Devil May Cryneeds to be on a Nintendo platform (DMChas historically been a PlayStation-centric franchise before jumping to PC and Xbox over time). He even accepts the disparity between Cloud’s appearance asFinal Fantasyhas a history with Nintendo (not to mention that technicallyFinal Fantasy 7is Switch-bound now, making it even more official). As Itsuno puts it: “Well, that’s the thing.Devil May Cryhas never been on a Nintendo platform. So it seems like the first thing to do would be to get Capcom to put Devil May Cry on a Nintendo platform in some way, shape or form – whatever game that might be.”

So…theDevil May Cry HD Collectionthen? Maybe if Capcom can make it happen Dante can sneak in for a potential Fighter’s Pass 2. If that happened he would be the only character to appear in bothPlayStation All-Stars Battle RoyaleandSmash(albeit under different incarnations, as we can only assumeSmashwould use classic Dante).

There is of course a strong chance that Heihachi Mishima could take that crown, especially given thatTekkenloves crossovers and Bandai Namco co-developedUltimate. Given Snake’s involvement,Metal Gear Solid‘s Raiden is a distinct possibility as well asSmashDLC. Okay now I’m talking too much aboutPlayStation All-Stars, a game only I care about.
