Lack of power cited as a reason for going with Wii U instead
I’d be playingNES Remix 2right now were it not for my tragic lack of a Wii U. (Almost made an impulse purchase the other day.) With the sequel out this week, one question that might’ve crossed your mind is, “Why not also put these games on 3DS?” Yes, Nintendo — why not?
Director Koichi Hayashida gave an answer toIGN, saying that he was familiar with Wii U having worked onSuper Mario 3D World. “But, if you step into the shadows a bit more, to accomplish what we wanted withNES Remix, and get the effect we wanted out of it and the value that we wanted it to have, we needed some more machine power,” he elaborated.

“I think the Wii U offered that up for us pretty easily, and it just would have been more difficult to do it for the 3DS,” he said. “I think that’s really the answer. It’s just that the Wii U had the machine power we were looking for in order for us to build the software we envisioned from the get go.”
That’s okay. Just ensure the next handheld can emulate SNES games and/or remixes of them.
