Those that followed Nintendo’s presentation yesterday may have seen a few teases in the trailers and coverage that made you think ofStar Fox. I remember at least seeing an R-Wing flying out of something.
I don’t think anyone would disagree that we’re long overdue for a newStar Foxgame, and thankfully Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto agrees. He feels that the 3DS is the best way to bringStar Foxback, too. He says that the DS touchscreens were probably not the best for games in the shooting genre, and that the small screens don’t help. Beyond that, Miyamoto feels that collisions in 3D space are sometimes hard to discern.

“All of that changes in 3D space,” said Miyamoto, at a roundtable event held during E3 yesterday. “I want to do aStar Foxgame that takes advantage of the 3D capabilities.”
“Besides, the bottom screen could be dedicated to controls and communications,” he added.

He went on to talk about how depth and distance in three-dimensional worlds are sometimes hard to judge, using Super Mario games as an example, saying that it’s sometimes hard to even properly jump up onto a stump or hit a floating block. He assured the audience that the capabilities of the 3DS clear all of this up, and he’s hoping to apply the technology to older franchises likeStar Foxas well as new games.
