The announcement ofElden Ring: Nightreignduring The Game Awards 2024 surprised many, but what kept the community chatting was not merely its existence.Elden Ring: Nightreigncrosses dimensions with other FromSoftware properties, bringing together enemies from the base game andDark Souls.
Like the Leonardo DiCaprio pointing meme, FromSoftware fans called out moments in theElden Ring: Nightreigntrailer that seemed to include enemies that didn’t belong to the base game. It was like the ghosts ofDark Souls‘ past were suddenly invading the Lands Between. At one point, footage showed player characters fighting with what fans swore was the Nameless King fromDark Souls 3. But that’s just silly, right?

Not at all, according to Game Director Junya Ishizaki. As reportedby Eurogamer, Ishizaki confirmed in aFamitsu interviewthatNightreignwill indeed pit players againstElden RingandDark Soulsenemies alike. According to Ishizaki, the Nightking’s power is capable of summoning the other-worldly creatures. Oh, he first got permission from Hidetaka Miyazaki and theDark Souls 2Director Yui Tanimura (of course).

The Nameless King isn’t the only former baddy coming to the party. As Eurogamer mentioned,IGN pointed outat least two other potentialDark Soulsalums. Both the Centipede Demon fromDark Soulsand The Duke’s Dear Freja from the sequel could be confirmed. You can get a possible glance of the former in theNightreigntrailerat 1:21. Clearly it’s no longer interested in defending Lost Izalith.
The news certainly piques my interest. I was somewhat mum on the online co-op spin-off at first. But if it lets me team up with some buds to beat the Fume Knight’s ass like a drum, I’m all for it.
