Doom has been out of the spotlight for a while now — the last I recollect hearing is way back in 2007 when id Software mentioned they were working on a new installment in the series. It’s sure to rise back up as a topic of conversation thanks to recent news that award winning British Fantasy authorGraham Joycehas been named as the writer behindDoom 4(a little bird over atCVGtold me).

This raises voices in the argument that Doom doesn’t need a deep, involved storyline, but was best back when the aim of the game was simply about taking on masses of enemies with the nuttiest weaponry you could lay your hands on. I personally prefer story, but can’t deny that sometimes its just satisfying to blow things away.
