Animation-sense tingling

Sony is doing everything it can to make Spider-Man work under their umbrella. The first step was basically saying they have no clue what they’re doing and handing the character over to Marvel. The second is developing an animated feature film,Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which you may see a nice long trailer of above.

The movie, produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, with a screenplay by Lord, is a step in a different direction for animated superhero movies in both the fact that it is getting a full theatrical release and its animation style is strikingly different… and stunning. I mean this movie just looks like it’ll be a blast to watch even if it somehow ends up sucking despite its creator’s proven track record.

A multi-verse also helps Sony explain their plethora of Spidey films including the upcomingVenom. For me, though, the highlight ofInto the Spider-Verseis that it just looks fun. With the Marvel cinematic universe in dire straights and DC’s universe just dire and the X-Men all over the damn place, having a superhero movie that looks like it’s just telling a fun story is really refreshing.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Versewill release nationally in theaters on December 14.
