The subject of speculation for many months,Resident Evil Villagewas officially revealed duringPlayStation’s Future of Gaming presentationback in June, with a trailer that confirmed the return ofResident Evil VIIprotagonist Ethan Winters, as well as a troubled and dour iteration of seemingly fallen S.T.A.R.S. hero Chris Redfield.

The cinematic preview also gave fans a first look at the titular “village,” a quaint and unearthly locale populated by strange and sinister townsfolk, warped society hostesses, and a frightening wolf-man. Capcom rumor-merchant DuskGolemhad previously referencedResident Evil Village‘s “dark and gruesome” tone, stating that the sequel’s story beats are “divisive” and “fucked up.”
