I took a few minutes today at Tokyo Game Show to have a peek at how the HD re-release of the first two installments in theYakuzaseries are shaping up. It’s looking good, folks. Crisp and sexy, I think players will struggle to tell the difference between this release and the later installments developed for the PlayStation 3. I couldn’t, after all.

That is to say, I couldn’t tell the difference in terms of assets like characters and environments. The user interface elements appeared to be placeholders in the demo, looking a little crude. I do hope sincerely that these are just temporary because they stick out like sore thumbs against the otherwise stellar presentation.

Regardless, it’s looking like a great opportunity for players who haven’t been introduced toYakuzato get on board and have a more consistent experience across the whole series. I’m pretty sure I’ll pick it up. Of course, this means that I’ll start from the beginning of the series again and, therefore, have to startYakuza 3for about the fifteenth time. I’m never going to finish that game at this rate.
